I live in the South Tampa area and have started researching the process to replace the carpeted stairs in my townhome with hardwood. Has anyone in the area done this before or has had someone come out and do it?

I'm looking into possibly doing it myself, but if I can find someone experienced that can do it for a reasonable price, I'd probably just do that.

If you are a DYIer you can check out this site. They have pretty clear instructions.

Prefinished Wood Stair Treads and Stair Components from Stair-Treads.com

I don't know anyone local that I could recommend.

I put Laminate on my stairs a couple moths ago. They were boxed stairs, meaning one of the sides were not opened. If you have an side that is opened, it gets tricky. In fact, if they are boxed in... DIY. If open, hire someone.

Nyce> Which area of TPA would that be?

I used to live in CLW and had carpeting replaced with hardwood in my stairs. It looked beautiful.

I did this in my first house... ordered the top of the stair treads from a lumber place, and painted the risers white... did have the top treads professionally installed (after I ripped out the carpet & did the painting) Well worth it. Louder, yes, but ooooo so easy to keep clean with a damp cloth!
