When we do party's and people RSVP and ask if their siblings can come, I explain to them that we are on a budget and unfortunately we cannot pay for siblings because doing so would mean less friends would be able to attend. They are more than welcomed to drop off their child at the party or the parents can pay for the siblings themselves. If you explain this during RSVP, people will understand. Seriously? 20 people on only 5 RSVPs and you sent out 11 invites? Some parents love to take advantage of situations (free admission to MOSI).

Thank you for the Birthday wishes!!

Floridakash: great suggestion which I will be taking up in the future. This is the last "class inclusive" party we will be doing anyway. Mostly because I think he has just outgrown it. Since we recently moved, this is his first party so we are being fairly generous. Next year, just a few BFFs. We expected the siblings and really don't mind too much. It is a small close group and most of the siblings are in the school. But yes...the numbers shoot up qucikly. We are allowed up to 30 people but I just didnt think we would hit it so fast.

I think you're luck if you hit 30 quickly. I'd be much more stressed knowing that I was putting all that cash out of pocket for 10 or 12 folks. And really, if you're already spending $250? and you go over by 5 people or so I think it's worth it. Firstly, it'll be that much more memorable with a good turn out.

Secondly, if you ask, you could get a few more stickers. They just gave us the roll of 30 stickers last time at the counter. So you could probably say, "and we're members we'd like to get our 5 stickers as well"...or have someone else on your membership ask and give the 'party' stickers to the guests and keep the VIP ones for yourselves. They're basing the party price on admission, which technically you've already paid for.

Our party host gave us 2 additional stickers free when I directed the grandparents of a guest to her for directions to the box office. Maybe she was being kind because they were older, or because she wanted a tip, but it didn't seem like it was something she was nervous about. I mean I wouldn't count on freebees, but you never know.

Okay everyone...As promised, here is my report on the party at MOSI. In short...it was awesome! We chose the "space/rocket" theme and the kids LOVED the experiments. They popped, exploded and got gooey and dirty. Heck...what more could a bunch of 8 year olds want.

The party hosts did a really good job in the classroom of organizing the event and keeping the kids busy. They really did take care of everything. Our party was in the 3:00 time slot and everyone stayed and played afterwards until the museum closed. A few kids did the ropes course. Since we are members, they are having a buy 3 get five free special (or somehting like that)

I heard a few say "this was the best party ever"! That wasn't our goal and we try to keep the bar reasonable but I am glad the kids had a blast.

AND, as previous posters mentioned, they were quite flexible when we got there. We managed the cost by choosing a post lunch time so we did not have to order food from the in-house caterer (bad and overepriced in IMO). In the end, they did let us bring in our own "healthier" snacks (love COSTCO) and I dont think they ever did a head count (although we were wthin the approved number).

In summary, they did a fantastic job and I would highly recommend it. With the party discount, swaptember and the reciprocity deals, we have gotten our monies worth out of MOSI membership ten fold. We are big fans!

Thank you all for your suggestions and I wish you all many fantastic birthday celebrations to come!
