Just wondering how much sinkhole activity is affecting homeowners insurance in West Pasco County. Anyone recently buy there that can tell me?

Thanks

Sinkholes are not part of a normal HOI. You have to add it in order to be protected. Your lender will probably require in certain areas

West pasco is high to insure for sinkholes. East Pasco no where near as much.

Most so called "sinkhole homes" have cracks and a lot of fraud is there...in Pinellas County we heard more of real "sinkholes" where the ground opened up but indeed due to the large amount of claims for cracks the ins. Premiums went up in Pasco...

An inspector can check for sinkholes but a good realtor can already update you if there has been a claim or not, without paying for an inspection on every house you might interested in.

And yet I know Land-o-Lakes has had "settlement issues".

Just about every home in Westport has had so called sinkhole damage. All homes in FL have cracks of some type.

Again a big sinkhole reported...NOT IN PASCO! This time it is on the intersection of Nebreska and Fletcher in Hillsborough County! The entire section is closed off.

I lived in both Zephyrhills and Land O' Lakes. I can tell you that both areas have MANY sinkhole issues. Several of our neighbors in both locations had severe damage from sink hole activity.

In my community one person filed for a sinkhole and was rewarded a sinkhole pay out...than walked away without paying the mortgage and got a judgment against him, so he moved back and used the insurance money not for the repairs for some settlement issues that were more than normal but didn't qualify as a sinkhole, for personal stuff...

Now the house is pending sale as a short sale...hopefully this person will get another judgement since he is basically trying all he can to get out and not all lenders are easy to just walk.

I wish that insurance companies would go after the builders for building fast and bad constructions because sinkholes can be prevented by building in a different way but a home would cost more.

A great article a couple months back in the Tampa Tribune. I just went to tampabay.com and did a search for sinkholes and a lot of results came up. Explains exactly the scenario that bentlebee is describing as well.
I live in Pasco, have the sinkhole insurance, but haven't met anyone that ever had one.
