In 2009, Florida Legislature approved increases of 125% for new residents and new license plates, and 54% for all other registrations.

In Florida, the impact fee is $225.

Not every state does this. Texas DOES have a new resident fee but it's only $90. Tennessee and Louisiana do NOT have new resident fees. I've registered in all 4 states in my life.

Florida also charges what ? $68 for a drivers license ? $20 in Tennessee, $22 in Louisiana, and $25 in Texas.

Florida is just trying to charge everyone for things they HAVE to have to live/work in the state to make up financial losses.
I'll gladly pay it seeing as how I am no longer paying state or local income taxes since moving down here.

I didn't pay them in Tennessee and don't pay them now in Texas either.

Cheap, cheap, cheap to register cars in TN. No impact fee. No state or local income tax.

I just renewed my driver's license. $17.50 for five years.

And auto insurance is a fraction of what it was in Florida. That's because the people here don't drive like lunatics.

Car insurance is expensive here because we have so many illegals who get in accidents with no license or insurance...

I am bringing two cars from NY. What else do I have to pay besides the $225 impact fee and the tax?

You won't have to pay the sales tax if you can prove you owned the car(s) for the last 6 months. We brought our payment invoice stubs for 6 months.

I believe our total bill per car was $338 but we got special plates which cost a few dollars more.

I had two cars registered last month. One was a lease. The registration fee was cheap on that one, less than $100. The other car I own out right. The reg fees where $300. This is a one time fee for new residents. Once you pay it, the next reg fee will be alot cheaper, about $70 to $80.
