I have to disagree. My commute here is MUCH easier and shorter than my commute was in Houston. I'm in LOL/Lutz and drive to downtown Tampa daily, then out and about the 3-county area throughout the day depending on which client's I'm visiting, and usually use a tank of gas a week (ford taurus). They're right about Dallas, though - the transit system there went from as bad as HART to really awesome.

I disagree....my commute is down the hall(I work from home). Just a little humor to start the day.

The title of the OP is very misleading. The article does not even mention "worst" commute, but is about the most EXPENSIVE commute comparing cost in relation to income.

If you've ever lived in a big city, you would not believe this. I lived in Chicago, much worse. NYC, much worse, LA, much worse....and the list continues

LMBO! I just moved to Atlanta from Tampa, Atlanta should win in every bad category (against Tampa) hands down.

I do believe it was slightly worse in Miami-Ft Lauderdale when I lived down there, no, it was definately worse than either Tampa or Atlanta.

I sort of agree with the numbers. I read somewhere that Tampa has more cars on the road per-capita than most large U.S. Metro areas. The thing about Tampa is that it is a "automobile city". I rad in the St. Pete Times sometime last year that Tampa has one of the highest automobile expensives in the nation as well.

Well, I agree with the article. I saw the traffic in Tampa increase annually since 1994.

My drive on Dale Mabry Hwy. from Carrollwood to near the airport normally took about 45 minutes. The distance is approximately 10 miles. My drive from Brandon to near the airport does not involve as much stop-and-go traffic, but it does involve toll roads. I get to pay at least $50 a month just on tolls.

The only good thing is that my boss is pretty flexible with my hours. So, if I don't feel like putting up with rush hour traffic, then I can come in a little later.

I've seen people buy homes in the outlying areas where they may be able to get more or newer homes for the money but totally be in denial about the commute. We commuted from Clearwater Beach to downtown Tampa for years and I can say thankfully it wasn't when gas was $3 a gallon. It is something you need to consider with the recent spike in fuel. I find it's not always as stressful as other big cities but we cover a lot of area - hence guzzling the gas. I used to drive 70 miles a day to take my kids to private schools and back - we moved closer. :-) thankfully
