Why do you think you do not have a choice? You can buy and drink distilled water which is 100% pure water...

I do not believe in the benefits over personal responsibility, if a person cannot take care of their teeth, screw them, do not force me to consume an item I do not want because of their lack of responsibility.
You are obviously a libertarian...

Or poeple can by fluoride and put it in their water to drink since they feel they need to drink it, what, they do not have a choice?

And since when does advocating poeple to take personal responsibility and brush their teeth make someone a libertarian? If I say you should maintain a healthy weight, eat good, wear your seat belt, and not smoke make me a libertarian also? I guess the difference to you is whether I state the government should mandate it or not.

There is some real ignorance floating around here...
Chlorine is to combat water borne illnesses, something no amount of diet or personal hygiene can prevent, unlike fluoride which is to basically make up for the lack of personal responsibility one has in brushing their teeth.

Many cities in the world have moved on past out of the tap chlorinated water.

Fluoride is a naturally occuring mineral found in almost all water sources. So you will get fluoride in your water whether you like it or not. All the government did was up the dose a little to help fight tooth decay. The only solid evidence I've found is that fluoride in the water is inexpensive and beneficial. It's just mind boggling to me that people oppose this. I've been drinking the water all my life without out any problems and I don't know and have never heard of anyone else having problems. As another poster stated, there are potentially much scarier things in our water system to be concerned about.

What's even more scary is that ignorant, politically motivated people who don't even likely DRINK the tap water (that's beneath them) are making these decisions which affect public health with no scientific basis.

Yes, I am talking to you, the podunk county commissioners of Pinellas County and whatever politically appointed staffmember in the Water department rubber stamped it... these people are like Boss Hogg or the Mayberry city council

Actually, we live here in Manatee and believe it or not I think our water tastes pretty good right out of the tap (most of the time).

We used to have REALLY great tasting water from our deep well up in Pasco County.

I think after growing up on tap water where part of the source was Glacier Water I'll always think most tap waters are pretty terrible. I think that Zephyrhills Bottled water is terrible as well. :-) Yes, I appear to be a water snob.
