Anyone out there have GOOD apartment reviews? I know apartment living has it's trade offs, but there have to be some decent apartment complexes in tampa/ st pete and would prefer rent under $1,100. Wish list: screened in porch, 2 bdrm, nice pool, not over run with college students, walking distance to pubs/ small restaurants... but i understand in this price range probably not going to happen.

we don't have a set location, just trying to get a feel for things. it will mainly come down to where we get jobs. We will both be traveling at rush hour to/from work. Honestly i would prefer a house, but i think an apartment would be much easier and cheaper to relocate into for a lease cycle.

Apartment living is what it is...

An apartment can have good reviews one day, and bad reviews six months later. The turnover of residents is regular, so you never know who your neighbors are going to be. Management also comes and goes, but they only matter if you have problems within the complex.

My apartment complex (in Brandon) is great 95% of the time - even though that 5% of chaos is pretty annoying. It is what you should expect living in an apartment.

You should also expect to find a lot of move-in specials that will keep your costs down below $1100 for most apartments. I was apartment-shopping this past spring, and almost all of them were within that price range for a 2BR apartment.

Apartment reviews are almost always negative. People who didn't have problems have much less incentive to write reviews than people who are unhappy. Sometimes people are unhappy because they were evicted for being terrible tenants, but they will paint themselves as perfectly innocent in their review. I've lived in many complexes around the Tampa area and they have all had terrible reviews. Some of them actually were pretty terrible, some were mediocre, and some were quite nice. I very happy with my current complex which meets most of your requirements but not all. If you want any info about it specifically please send me a DM, I don't like to get too specific in a public post. I can tell you that the reviews made me nervous, but after living in this complex for more than two years I have yet to run into any of the issues I read about, and in fact I have never had a more positive renting experience.

take those negative reviews with a grain of salt. people who sign up for sites to leave reviews are generally very negative, melodramatic, narrow-minded people. the only thing reviews are good for is negative patterns... ie - if the same downside is mentioned over and over. assume all positive reviews are bunk.

thanks. i feel the same way- when places are great very few will stop to write about it. when it's bad that's all they want to write about. we looked at some places in Ybor today. it seems like we can have lots to do on xyz street but should NOT cross into abc street... i guess any city developed over time will have dips and peaks.
can anyone think of a complex that has some features like a fitness center and pool, but still near things to do, or near a park or some place we could out and walk around ? ?

I wouldnt live in ybor personally. They are trying to make it nicer but I still dont feel that its safe at all.

Are you looking to be in the city itself or do you mind the suburbs? When you want to walk around, are you wanting to walk around the city or more nature like?
We lived in lake carlton arms for a year until we got our house. We were VERY happy there, its a bit out of the city in lutz but the reviews are good, prices are very good (we had 2 bed 2 bath townhouse on a lake with private patio for 800/month which inlcudes basic cable and water).

thanks Tim Tim Tim that apartment looks like it has a lot to offer.

Was there enough things to so in Lutz? We are relocating, so i'm concerned it might be too isolated... but then it is near USF.

well its definitely not in walking distance to anywhere. The veterans expressway is literally right beside the entrance to the complex though and that will run you right to 2 of the major malls in the area, airport, south tampa etc. Most of the stores in the area are newer (Which we really like) and roads and stuff are all good. We loved it there, we actually only live about 10 minutes from there now and when we buy our next house, were looking to go back that way again. You can get to south tampa (furthest place I mentioned in 15 minutes during non traffic hours), others are all closer.

Basically, you get a heck of alot more for your money but your not living right in the heart of things (which I prefer personally)

You sound like young professionals that want to be in a dynamic and comfortable area. I've lived in Tampa for the last four years and have spent time in Riverview, Brandon, and South Tampa. I overwhelmingly prefer S. Tampa because it offers the best in my opinion. However, it can get pricey and some apartments have a large college-kid presence. I would consider the Westchase/Carrollwood area as well but depending on where you work, traffic can become problematic.
