The childrens museum is cool, you can go to the beach (I personally wouldnt swim but they usually do other cool things out at the pier on clearwater beach). That would probably be a recomendation for sure, maybe get there around 3-4pm and stay the evening. Maybe have dinner out out one of the beach front restraunts
She said that the kids are in middle school. Mom knows best but I don't see why middle schoolers wouldn't enjoy the Dali museum.

There's also Tarpon Springs.

The Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo put on a spectacular display around the Holidays - and it's free. (Pinellas County Florida Botanical Gardens)

Honeymoon Island in Dunedin is great, too. And Caladesi Island is accessable via a short ferry ride (note - Caladesi was the #1 beach for 2008: America's Best Beach:* Past National Winners

The Lowery Park Zoo is excellent (Tampa)

Wanted to thank everyone for their advice and help. We enjoyed our trip to Tampa. I loved the city so much that it's now tied with San Diego as a place where I will retire. Up until now I haven't found a city I've loved as much (we do travel extensively about the nation).

We stayed in the Marriott Residence Inn which had the largest continental breakfast I've seen to date. Every Mon/Tue/Wed night they have a social hour which also served dinner at no extra cost.

We ended up spending one day in Busch Gardens and another day visiting Winter at the Clearwater Aquarium. I know now what places I'd like to see next time around. Thanks again!
