What do you think, Lee Roy's or Sonny's? Which is best, and why?

Lee Roy Selmons, it's not even close.

It's not the best BBQ in Tampa though.

Here are the best BBQ in my opionion in Tampa

1. First Choice BBQ
2. Jazzy's BBQ
3. Alex's BBQ
4. Kojak's

Sonny's isnt terrible, but it's a chain, so it's only so good

I like Selmons but I just wouldn't consider it a BBQ place because of all the other food they serve.

Kojacks.. only because I have friends who work there.

Never had Lee Roy Selmon, but we went to Sonny's and not only was it not very good, but the people were rude.

Have been to Sonny's twice and was disappointed both times - ribs were very bad. Don't expect to go back.

This is not a good comparison to make....Sonny's is s lower-end 'cue joint, and Lee Roy's is quality. It's like comparing a college football team to a pro team.

OUCH!

Thanks CrazyNip. Might try Alex's tonight. It's on my way home!

Not a fan of BBQ. Their ribs stink and nothing is spectacular.

So I asked the question because we had been to Sonny's several times, and recently went to Lee Roy's. We've found that Sonny's has better offerings across the board than Famous Dave's (familiar chain farther north), the prices are lower, but Sonny's doesn't invest much in atmosphere. Lee Roy's was disappointing--ribs not as meaty as Sonny's, sides nothing to brag about (too-salty fries), higher prices, but plenty of atmosphere, quantities not as generous. In fact, we'd put Famous Dave's ahead of Lee Roy's. I'm eager to get to the other shops mentioned here.
