Wondering if anyone had any opinions they'd be willing to share about the following schools: Sacred Heart Academy, Christ the King and Academy of the Holy Names. I am from out of state and looking at catholic schools and can see vast differences in size on the websites but am looking for some more parental experiences.

CKS blew when I went there. Honestly, if you're living in South Tampa, most of the public schools are equal to if not better than the private schools.

Not sure about CTK but have always heard good things about Sacred Heart and Holy Names. I do agree with Ferrett though if you live NOG the public schools are very good.

This is our first year at Holy Names, we moved from a highly rated public school into this school. My son is in 2nd grade and my daughter is in Pre K. It has been a great experience. Even though it is Catholic and has strong traditions, they are on the cutting edge of technology (smart boards, laptops, amazing computer lab),have strong communication (weekly newsletters, a new blog each week), great facilities (tennis courts, olympic swimming pool, amazing library), the kids are challenged with fast paced academics (my second grader gets a 25-30 question math review before his exams) and they also make sure that they have fun (with treats at Valentine's, Fat Tuesday, etc). What I love is that my son's teacher brings a soccer ball to recess and is a big believer of letting the kids run around and with pe twice a week and recess twice a day they definitely do that. They swim in the warm months, my son jumps out of bed on those days. My daughter in Pre K gets extra work sent home since the teacher recognized that she was ready for the additional challenge. As you can tell, I really love the school.

I used to live by " Sacred Heart " in S Tampa and believe it to have a good reputation. I know that "Espiritu Sanctu" across the bay, where I am now is also pretty good. I can only testify to the fact that private Catholic high school saved my sons grades and self esteem. He is now 38 and an exec w/Boeing. I am a grammy now but if I had a kid in Fl it for sure would be private school. The state testing results for public schools in Fl stinks and they pay the teachers peanuts so I guess you get what you pay for. They only get their education once -go for it even if you have make savings elsewhere.
