My family offered for me to come down here and I was like "Florida? **** Yeah!". My wife kinda talked me into it too. I know. I'm being a little harsh, but I found a school called pTEC in St. Pete and they have a degree there that's right up my alley. SO, I think I'm gonna head down there first. My wife got a management job in Pinellas Park so that's a good reason to head down anyways. Yeah, next time I'm gonna research. I commend myself for trying something new, though. Knoxville is still pretty rad except for Vols orange.

BTW I quit a great job of six years and sold my house to come down here. I think that's another reason I'm taking this so hard. Ha. DERP!

Tampa CLW StP was just a little more to offer than Brooksville, FL.

If you really want some serious culture (ballet, opera, symphony, etc.) in that regards, less than an hour south you'll find just that in Sarasota.

Sarasota has an amazing amount of things involving the arts, which was a real surprise to me when I first moved to the area.

I have always been a patron of the opera, and Tampa's opera scene, well, it's OK, but certainly nothing to write home about.

Sarasota has a seasonal thing going in the winter where it appears that many things are set up to draw from the art communities throughout the US . How could you not want some "sun and fun" in the middle of January or February??

Tampa does have some good things going for it culturally, however, if you're a little more particular about the arts you should have no problem finding what you want in Sarasota.

Tampa has 8-10 broadway shows a season for as little as $10/seat (season tickets). Tampa has the Florida Orchestra with performances in masterworks, pop, and even a series of morning performances (season tickets=cheap). I'm not into operas, but the Straz has several opera performances every year. Straz Center Official Website

No reason to slight Tampa for culture, or other entertainment opportunities (pop, sports, even gambling).

I moved from Tampa to Knoxville three years ago. My in-laws live just outside Brooksville. Yeah.. you need to move just a bit further south to Tampa/St. Pete. I actually kinda prefer the slightly slower pace here in Knoxville to Tampa.. miss the beaches like crazy, but not the traffic. Tampa has a lot to offer...

Visited Brooksville for the first time since we moved here.... ouch.

Sure you will like it around Pinellas County better. Just do yourself a favor. Ask around and get some opinions from the locals on where you should live near Pinellas Park and St. Pete before moving there and making another error. You'll most likely be closer to the Florida you are imagining.

Not to pile on, but:

Knoxville, TN population: 178,874 (2010 census)
Brooksville, FL population: 7,719 (2010 census)

There's a reason people are being so harsh in their responses. You moved from a midsized city to a small rural town.
