he probably went on google and came up with a list of things he could theoretically walk to

Yes, I never leave my neighborhood and actually do all my shopping at the dumpster down the street. I love my ghetto (I know how much you love that word).

You can count on one hand the number of verifiable statements you've ever made on this forum.

Dont listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Palma Ceia and Hyde Park are not places where you can just walk to accomplish all your shopping tasks. Besides, once you move here, you will find you wont want to walk much further than the end of your driveway between June and the end of September because of the heat/humidity. That said, that area is safe, nice and has some of the better schools in the area.
And let's be honest, the heat and humidity start in April and can go well into November. FL is not a June- Sept heat.

By April the 90 plus degree days with high humidity have already started.

That's not true. Every year is different - last year (at least here in Sarasota) the truly muggy weather didn't start til mid-June. Usually it starts in mid-May. But it may be different where you are.

Although that sounds like a neighborhood in heaven, you can find some good areas in Tampa that could suit what you're looking for. How close do you want to be to your husband's work? Commute aside, there are a lot of tampa new homes available that could work for you and your family. One that comes to mind is just north of the AFB in an area between Palma Ceia and Bayshore Beautiful that has a lot of what you are looking for at reasonable prices. Hope this helps and good luck!

It started in late April. In summer 2010, I turned on my air conditioner May 16, in summer 2011, I turned it on May 1. Then it broke, and I was without air for 2 weeks in the middle of may, and it was absolutely brutal.
