Well folks - here we go. Got laid off along with 20 other people in my division. So now it is time to see what the Tampa Bay job market really is like.

I'm an experienced Sr. Business Analyst with Project Management experience who was employed by the world's #1 Commercial Insurance Brokerage. If anyone has any leads I would appreciate. Fun times ahead! I'll post frequently so people can get a real sense of what the job market is like out there.

You may want to file for any unemployment benefits owed you as usually in most places your claim will commence when you file and not when you got laid off..
Good luck on the job search..

Thanks Jambo. My employer is providing me with 8 weeks of severance pay to begin on the 15th of April. Unfortunately, from what I have read, severance pay make me no eligible to collect unemployment.

I am setting the kids up on Florida Kid Care though. The most stressful part of this situation is losing my benefits (yes, I know about COBRA). That seems like a great program.

Sorry to hear when a fellow poster has this kind of news. For some reason, your initial post reminds me of Reagan's axiom that a recession is when your neighbor's out of work, a depression is when you're out of work. Just thought the Tampa Bay area was climbing out of the recession where you start hearing about housing prices were coming up, that employment numbers were improving, and even attendance at local events (ie Bucs, Rays, Bolts) were improving due people's financial circumstances improving. Good luck to you in your search. Probably good for prospective newcomers to read and understand that the area's job market isn't necessarily gleaming right now.

Best of luck to you!

So sorry to hear FK...I do hope you find a new job soon, and even a better one like Gypsy said.

KidCare is good, we had it, and we miss it now! (oddly enough)

Hopefully with the economy improving you will find something quick. Who knows, maybe you'll find something better than your last job. Good luck with your job search.
