I am considering a move to St. Pete for the sailing. I have been staying in hotels near the Dali museum and the St. Pete Yacht club. Is this "downtown?" I like the restaurant scene here, the park and the walking. However I have seen several threads about not living south of 22nd ave N..etc... that would put this area as Midtown? or? I DO NOT want to live in a crime area, but am used to the normal city aberrations.

Yep -- that's downtown.

Anyone stating "don't live south of 22nd Ave N" does not live anywhere near St Pete, as I am sure several thousand residents of Old Northeast and the millionaires in the waterfront high rises would beg to differ. I'm not sure where you saw that. Are you sure it wasn't "don't live south of downtown"?

Downtown IS south of 22nd Av. N. Parts of the South side are beautiful-just not Midtown.

If you are there and you are walking around the area what do you think?
The area you describe is the downtown area, although i'd say 4th st. and Central to 3rd ave North would probably be considered ground zero for downtown.
Not sure what your friends had in mind when they advised not living south of 22nd ave N.as thats some fine living south of 22nd,south of Central is probably what they meant,i'd ask em again..
