We are heading down for the Kenny Chesney concert next month and I am looking at getting a room at the Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn right down the street. (I don't need fancy, just a place to sleep.)

It is definitely within walking distance, but would we *want* to walk? More importantly, would we feel safe walking back to the hotel after?

I'm thinking that those hotels would have plenty of people staying that night and we wouldn't be the only ones walking back.

Thanks

That area isn't the most desirable, but I'd think you'll be fine with walking. I actually think it will be faster than driving. There should also be security before and after the concert. I'd also just suggest that you keep to the west side of Dale Mabry Highway away from Al Lopez Park at night. Keep alert and watch out for trouble. I'm sure there are types just looking to take advantage of unsuspecting people.

Have a good time!

I agree as long as you don't dilly dally around after the concert you should be fine as there will be a ton of people there. Stay on the west side like TampaKaren said and just have fun

there are seriously so many people and so much security you will be fine walking.. The area isnt terrible, mostly spanish people. I have been on call out there at wee hours of the night and never had any concerns. there are much worse areas around then there.

You'll be fine. Just don't venture too far east.

It's no different than going to a concert or event at St. Pete Times forum in downtown Tampa. There are so many people walking before and after there are no problems and no on feels unsafe.

Ehhh. Tampa has this issue too huh? Amway center in Orlando is the same. Most people park to the East of the Amway Center because it's safer, more well lit and more desirable. It's good to know people do their research though Thinking bout hitting up a concert at the end of may, great info. SMH as many times as I have ventured Tampa I would have never suspected.

You won't have a problem if you stay along Dale Mabry and don't venture into the Drew Park area. As to hotels, I'd suggest the Holiday Inn. It's newer and nicer. Avoid the Stadium Inn (old Days Inn).

Your biggest danger will be cars. Dale Mabry is a wide, with many lanes of fast-moving traffic. Pedestrians get killed crossing it regularly. Be careful and keep a close eye on any drunks in your party.
