Hey everyone. A friend of mine is gonna be in Tampa on business for a weekend (9/28-10/1) and I'm gonna meet up with him. None of us know that area at all, and I'm sure we are gonna hit the bar scene at night. So I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations.
-We are gonna be staying near Tampa International airport (maybe within 5 miles). Looking for something close by, but I will have a rental car and have no problem driving or catching a taxi.
-We listen to metal/punk/rock music
-Live music possibly (something fitting into the categories above)
-And finally... if you know anywhere that has a Beer Pong table... please let me know!

OK, thanks a lot everyone. Huge fan of this forum by the way. I've been thinking about moving and this site has been a big help.

Channelside is a pretty neat area at night and it's easy to find. Do a search on it and you'll find a lot of info.

If you’re not into the pretentious Mickey Mouse style BS that much of Tampa has to offer, then I would highly suggest the following.

The first two are the only places in Tampa that you will see Tampa’s elite rubbing shoulders with the tattooed old school punk rock scene. Both have a very good jukebox filled with everything from Hank Williams Sr to the New York Dolls. HOPE YOU LIKE DIVE BARS!!!

Tiny Tap
2105 W Morrison Ave
Tampa, FL 33606-2433
Phone: (813) 258-5212

The Hub
719 N Franklin St
Tampa, FL 33602-4411
Phone: (813) 229-1553

The next are located in Ybor City. Ybor originally was the Cuban, Italian and Spanish area back in the cigar manufacturing days. In the 80s it was a place that many Tampa artist and outcast called home. It was seedy area with punk rock and gay clubs. Back in the mid 90s it was decided that gentrification was in order. Now it’s filled with things that tourist apparently enjoy (sorry I can sound like a bitter native sometimes). It’s still seedy, just not as seedy as it was “back in the day”.

I haven’t been to Boneyard since they opened up, but when I was there they had a DJ spinning Ska, Punk and Rockabilly.

Boneyard
1823 E 7th Ave
Tampa, FL 33605
Phone: (813) 248-6224

The next is New World Brewery. They have live shows and good beer. You will run into many Tampa artists in New World.

New World Brewery
1313 E Eighth Ave
Tampa, FL 33605
Phone: (813) 248-4969

If you enjoy metal The Crowbar is a must see.

Crowbar
1812 N 17th St
Tampa, FL 33605
Phone: (813) 241-8600

If you’re into Goth clubs with scantly clad girls who all try to look like Betty Page you can check out The Castle.

The Castle
2004 N 16th St
Tampa, FL 33605
Phone: (813) 247-7547

If you like any Electro you can go to Czar.

Czar
1430 E 7th Ave
Tampa, FL 33605
(813) 247-2664

The Orpheum is a great place for Punk shows and good drink specials.

The Orpheum
1902 N Republica De Cuba
Tampa, FL 33605
Phone: (813) 248-9500

Last but not least we have Fuma Bella. Located between New World Brewery and The Orpheum. It’s a great place to be when you want a nice quite conversation.

Fuma Bella

Tampa, FL 33605-3601
