Greatschools.org gives 2 elementary schools in NPR (Trinity and Longleaf) a 9 out of 10 rating. I thought this was an undesirable area that I should be avoiding as we search for a SAFE area to relocate our family to. Now I'm confused as I thought great schools and great neighborhoods when hand in hand in Florida.

Trinity & Longleaf are very nice areas...so you are misinformed.

Btw the HS my son goes to was a "D" school 3 years ago and now an "A" school...new Principal who changed a lot and some bad kids left the school which makes a huge difference.

Bad teachers, parents who doesn't care and kids who go to school but don't want to be there can be a disaster but even 1 out of the 3 can cause the school to get a bad great while;

Good teachers, motivated parents and motivated kids can be a huge difference!

Trinity elementary is the #2 in the county just after WC elementary. longleaf is ranked at #9, all based on Florida school ranking straight from the source. Even though I don't agree 100% on the ranking system (that's another topic), it gives you pretty good indication. So I would say trinity is a head and shoulder above long leaf.

Specifically, what sucks about it?

The bad areas of Pasco County are in northwest Pasco. Longleaf and Trinity and south of the bad areas. You should be fine if you decide on Trinity or Longleaf.

Pretty sure if you live in Trinity your kids would go to Gulf, which is white trash central

The Trinity area is Mitchell High. Longleaf would also be. Go to the Pasco County Schools website and click on the "Parents" heading. You will find school boundary info there.

I don't know anything about either of those schools, however. School rating will give you a general idea. I wouldn't worry as much about AYP. (Annual Yearly Progress.) AYP guidelines make it difficult for good performing schools to meet the goals.
