I didn't think to check on auto insurance, but mine doubled from my NC rate. Ouch. I have a sports car, but am 33 and have no accidents in the past 10 years and no tickets.

That no state income tax thing offsets it by far, but still a bit shocking.

Many people waste money on the coverages they pick. Such as having low deductibles.

Florida is much higher than most states though.

Wait until you buy a home and get that insurance rate. LOL.

Am I the only one around here that think $140/mo for two cars is completely reasonable?

That sounds reasonable to me. The average cost of auto ins in FL is about 1k a year. Thats about 90 a month so your figure is quite in line with that.

For those paying so much, they need to shop around and determine why they are paying 200 or more a month.

It really really depends where you live and what you drive. I personally do not have a single ticket or accident on my record and I believe my husband has one speeding ticket (4ish years ago), no wrecks. I have a 2 year old VW, and he has a 7 year old VW. We pay 220ish a month (it recently went down so i forget what the new rate is) for full coverage 25/50k, and that was with USAA. State farm wanted to charge us over 400 a month for the same coverage. Geico was like 300ish.

Mine is going up from $110 in NC, to $225 in Tampa (USAA). That hurts. $2700 a year.

Nope, if you read the post, the husband must have entered something wrong because the wife entered the info and it was much less.

Adjust your PIP. If you have med insurance and disability insurance, drop PIP to the absolute minimum possible. Also, if you carry deductibles carry $500 for comp/coll. Ditch emergency road service, get AAA instead.
