Just graduated college and looking to work in downtown Tampa. My roommate will be attending HCC-Ybor and we are having trouble finding places in the area that suit our price range. Looking to spend no more then $850 a month on a place. The only places I could find under $1000 a month were run down houses in the bad areas of town or places with no available units (Metro 510). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

For the price you are looking at, I think that price is about correct on what you will find. Have you been down that way or are you moving here?

You're painting a very small picture of what you need. If you need to live here because you have no vehicles, I understand that. But you may have to decide if you want to walk to work and not have a car payment, insurance payment, gas and maintenace, which could easily total 500 per month.

So living that close to where you work and go to school, you could spend 1500 per month, live in one of those nice new condo's and still be in the same situation.

If 1000 is max because you have car payments, student loans, etc... that is different. But, there is no hidden properties down there. Investors are buying homes, putting a small amount of money in to them and getting them back on the market as rentals everyday. Rentals are not a gimmie and when you get very specific on an area, they are very limited.

Wish I had better news!

Ybor City is pretty much not a desirable area to live. Mostly ghetto, no real nice area at all. Period. End of story.

The reason you're not finding much in your price range in or around Ybor City is because the area in and around Ybor City is mostly an undesirable dump.

Those maps that someone did a while back showing good and bad areas should be a sticky.
