There you go with your hyperbole again. If you think it's "absolutely absurd," so be it. You have no substance behind your claim.

You have no substance behind your claim. Lots of people have concrete or reinforced mailboxes and I have never heard of someone being sued for such.

Having a reinforced mailbox is completely different than having a concrete mailbox that's altered to cause harm. Get the reinforced mailbox but don't fill a mailbox with concrete.

I think the video camera is a good suggestion. It's been years ago, but something similar happened in our neighborhood when our daughter was in high school. I always suspected the culprits were teenagers who knew her since our mailbox was hit two or three times in a month. They were never caught in the act. Just be mindful that if whoever is bashing the mailboxes gets away with it, that their activities could very well advance to more serious crimes such as a break-in. I think you are doing the right thing to try and catch them.

Seems only one police report was taken on this spree of criminal mischief

Most of my immediate neighbors are sweet, elderly folks and they don't deserve having their property destroyed. This has been a frequent occurrence on our street over the past few years since the economy tanked and we ended up with a bunch of low-income, dysfunctional families in our neighborhood. The police have been contacted numerous times, but my neighbors say all they can do is write up a report and patrol the area … the kids never get caught.

So … my question is, what can we do to keep this from happening?

I CANNOT WAIT to get out of this area. I've lived in many places throughout my lifetime, and I've NEVER been subjected to so many neighborhood problems!

Probably true. I believe my neighbors reported it back when it first started happening, but they said the police told them they wouldn't be able to do anything unless we could identify the kids or catch them in the act.

Look, I know you're going to get on here and say how great Spring Hill is and blah, blah, blah … I honestly don't care anymore. We're renting our place out soon and getting out of here, so whether Spring Hill turns ghetto or paradise won't matter much to me. We close on our new place in July and I don't EVER intend on returning to Spring Hill to live.

I do, however, care about the family that will be renting our home, and I care about our lovely neighbors … I don't want to see them victimized anymore by these hoodlums and gangbangers who have infiltrated what used to be a nice little neighborhood. I'm going to suggest video surveillance. Hopefully with some video evidence my neighbors can nail the punks who keep destroying our property.

Video surveillance is a good idea. Nothing like the proof in the pudding!.

Also a neighborhood watch would be useful. Kids dont usually get out of hand when they know they are being watched.

Again, good luck on your relocation. Don't be so surprised if you find the same situations in the new hood.

Thanks! I know we'll have some issues in our new area … just not as many. There's no such thing as a perfect, crime-free neighborhood.

That area produces destructive, reckless kids, it always has (moon lake, shady hills, hudson, spring hill, etc), it's nothing new.
