We've been on our househunting trip for a few days now, and the area/neighborhoods of Carrollwood and Countryside seem to be what we've liked best. Lots of sidewalks that all flow from one development into another, nicely kept homes throughout for the most part, larger lots, decent looking shopping centers in the surrounding areas... (We've checked out Westchase, Seminole, Bellaire, East Lake Woodlands, Oldsmar, Safety Harbor, Fishhawk, Dunedin, Riverview, Old Northeast, and part of South Tampa).

How would you compare Countryside and Carrollwood for schools, kids activities, playgrounds/open space, family oriented, safety, and whatever else I'm missing? For schools, we have elementary aged kids but would be curious about school options through high school. We also homeschool right now, but may not always- how are homeschooling groups/opportunities?

How is the Countryside Rec Center? Looked nice with a huge playground and lots of ball fields. I didn't see any smaller playgrounds or gathering places elsewhere in Countryside though. Did I just miss them?

I did see various playgrounds/bball courts etc at various points in Carrollwood.

Is Pinellas versus Hillsborough County make a difference for any reasons?

Anyone know an approximate time to the beaches for each one? and to MacDill AFB? (dh is fine with whatever commute since we've checked out many closer areas as well!)

We would probably look into either the Countryside Golf Club for its golf/tennis/swim team or the Emerald Greens Club for its golf/tennis/swim team. Is anyone familiar with either of them? We've never belonged to a club before so not sure what to look for aside from the obvious price and amenities.

Thanks for any and all input you can offer!

Countryside and Carrolwood are similar in terms of schools and housing quality. I have no idea about the parks, but I know they exist in both places.

Says you will work at MacDill.

Commute times will suck badly from Countryside. There is no easy way to get from Countryside to MacDill. At least an hour, maybe more commute versus less than 30 minutes from Carrolwood.

However beaches are closer.

I venture to guess you will go to work more than the beach, so I would want to live closer to work.

Pinellas County, you will pay more in taxes and homeowners insurance and car insurance than Hillsborough County.

This ^^^. For all reasons mentioned, I would stick to Carrollwood. Plus, it's a nice area.

I like the look and feel of the Carrollwood area. I don't know the ins and outs of the Countryside area, so I would go with experts.
Carrollwood has a LOT going on. They are the major shopping area in that entire section. All up Dale Mabry. Then you go a mile or so off the main path and you have some very nice areas to live. Even the West through Northern sides of that area, have some great tracts.

Taxes and traffic!!!

Countryside is just as nice, but it's just too far from where the dude is going to work.

What about the neighborhoods/towns as far as festivals, going-ons? I've seen safety harbor referred to as having a great community feel (even though we didnt get that sense from driving around it). Does countryside or carrollwood offer the same feel?

I appreciate all the responses! Thank you. We are down to one more day of house hunting!

We dont really have festivals here. Unless you consider RIBFEST one.

We also dont have sense of community here. Too many transients and it's too hot.

This isnt Mayberry.
