Hello. I'm relocating from San Diego (Del Mar) to Florida. I've got a new job that requires me to live in the Tampa Bay area and travel quite a bit inside Florida and Southern Alabama (mostly by car). I'm married and have always liked to live near the beach, so I thought Clearwater could be a good choice. Does anyone know the area well to recommend certain neighborhoods, where's traffic, the good and the bad pretty much.

Someone told me about Indian Rock Beach which is right on the water, but from my search it looked more like a vacation spot. It seems like other neighborhoods like Apollo Beach or Palm Harbor are ok but quite a ride to get to the beach.

I'm looking for an area that isn't crowded but not necessarily full of 80+ seniors.. and that offers some good outdoor areas for running and biking. I'm very active and would like to live in an area good for sports.

I appreciate any comments. Thanks in advance.

1 - I work commercial hours 9-5 mostly in nearby cities (Orlando, Miami etc.)
2 - Looking for rent ($1,000 to $1,400/mo best 2BR/2BA)
3 - No kids
4 - Very active (running, cycling, swimming, gyms)

You should find what you are looking for in Clearwater. I wouldn't count out Palm Harbor and also would look in the Westchase area. You are a little further from the beach, but your running and cycling would be better. There are biking trails all over, just wish for more.

If you dont mind being short distance from sands, try seminole, good area, and has Pinellas Trail running through it.
its only about 3-5 mins to beach by car. Otherwise, Indian Rocks beach has some communities that are mostly owner/tenant occupied townhomes or condos. Clearwater and St PEte beaches are really touristy, so avoid them, look at Belleair Beach, North Redington and Redington Beaches and possibly parts of Madeira Beach where there are more homes as well as condos. Good luck, it's not quite Del Mar! but its nice
