Tampa/Tampa Bay Safer Areas Inquiry (Clearwater: apartment, to rent, find a job)

Hello

I see a few threads on moving to Tampa/Tampa Bay/St Pete etc and what are safer areas.

Looking at a map of tampa, is there a general area to avoid (ex. south west or north east etc)?
Or above a certain road of town?

I am not sure where I will find a job so I am sure that makes a huge difference, however I will visit at the end of November and would like to drive to a few areas to get a feel. I dont want to end up on the wrong side of the town. I am a single female in her mid 30s.

Is the commute usually to work at least an hour on a causeway/interstate regardless?

I am planning to rent an apartment when I first move hopefully for no more than 2bdrm 800 a month? Im not sure if that is considered cheap or average for Tampa?

First off I would say to take everything here with a grain of salt, check all the different threads about good and bad areas. Make sure to avoid made up maps that broad brush entire areas.
Also it all depends on what you are looking for lifestyle wise, party, beaches, sit around pool and do nothing, outdoorsy, etc.. Different areas would be better for each.

Stay away from East Tampa regardless. Find out where you'll work first, and then look for places to live. If you know where you'll work, we can tell you what is within a reasonable commute.

2 bedroom for $800 in a safe, decent area is unheard of unless its a complete rat dungeon with mold roaches and snakes. An ok 1 bdrm in a decent area would be at least 800

Your maps are pretty accurate. There are a few very small areas that are ok, but they are surrounded by ghetto or run down areas.

In which case, in my opinion, they are bad. Who wants to live in Ft. Apache?

Yep gotta say when I lived in Tampa , 800 was pretty much the starting rate at which to get a decent apt, which was three years ago , so I would say yes depending on where you work start with that first then go from there and good luck hunting for a place to live is not an easy task . Several of my adult kids live in Tampa and I could probalby help you from there . Just let us know what area you will be working in and then maybe we can help you better .

Clearwater Belcher area--- I like it over there prettier and cheaper. and safer- $600 for 1 bedrooms
