Hi,

We're considering Tarpon Springs as our retirement destination but are having a difficult time getting a handle on the neighborhoods (or areas) in Tarpon Springs. We have a feel for the sponge docks neighborhood (touristy, novelty shops, restaurants) and somewhat for the Tarpon Lake area (a little more conservative, mostly residential) but that's about it. We are stumped getting "a feel" for the other areas in Tarpon Springs.

Ideally we'd like a smaller historic house in a walkable neighborhood within a mile or so from a grocery store. Having a dock with gulf access would be wonderful but not mandatory.

Insights from locals into Tarpon Springs neighborhoods/areas would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Check out Baywood Village. Smaller, older, mostly newly rennovated homes. I lived in there for a couple of years.. I think the address will officially be Palm Harbor but you cross the street and you are in Tarpon Springs. The houses on my block all had docks located on inlets to the Gulf of Mexico.

There are homes in the neighborhood which have large backyards but don't have connection to the Gulf as well. The particular house I stayed in was pretty cool because it had a big pool area that back up to the dock, we would take kayaks out the the gulf and fish, while some of our neighbors had huge fishing boats back there.

You can easily walk to a Sweet Bay Grocery store close by. You are less than a 5 minute drive from Hellen Ellis Hospital, Downtown Tarpon Springs (Sponge Docks), Fred Howard Park (Beach), and local shopping centers. US-19 is also easy to access which will have anything you want on it and connect you to anywhere in the bay area.
