I would have loved to find a home in the Bay Woods area, I think that would have been our perfect fit To the OP, if you can find a home in your price range in that area, I would have to second what floridagirl says, I think it sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

We also like Del Oro Groves, but again, limited inventory. I also don't think it was as family friendly looking as Bay Woods.
There is a house near mine in Bay Woods that is for sale. It's a little dated, but it has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and no pool. It's been on the market for 240K for several weeks now because it is overpriced.

Bay Woods is a GREAT neighborhood! When we first moved in, about 6 different neighbors came over and brought us pie or cookies. Our kids made friends with the other kids around here very quickly. They are all nice children … well-behaved and from good homes. The parents actually come over to meet you before sending their children over for the first time. We love living here, but you are right … it's difficult to get in to this neighborhood. Thankfully we squeezed in before the market priced us out!

Forgot to mention that we looked in Del Oro Groves as well. It is a beautiful neighborhood! But after talking with some people, we heard that there weren't a lot of younger families in there.

You aren't going to go wrong with Safety Harbor. It's a GREAT community. We just got back from 3rd Friday with some friends and had a wonderful time! It really is the gem of Pinellas County.
