The Tampa Bay metropolitan area is still (somehow) one of the whitest in the country. You will fit right in with most of the locals.

To all those who already have or are about to spout that BS of "Most Hispanics are white too!" please just save it. Most Hispanics in America are NOT white but check white on the census because they WANT to be white!

Most hispanics can make a claim to various races, myself I am latino, I can trace my roots to German coal miners, Japanese horticulturist, spanish settlers, black slaves and indian. I wrote white on the census, I assure you not because I want to be white, which I am assuming you mean Caucasian.

Sounds like selecting mixed race would be a much more fitting race for you. Why deny all your other heritage and check the white box on the census?

Wow.... get serious.

Who cares what ethnic background a person is. What matters is what they live their lives like.

I have a feeling the OP actually is hispanic or wanted a high hispanic population but some people assumed he wanted Tampa to be white

I think it's a ridiculous question anyway. Every city has a different culture, the whites from Tampa don't behave like the whites from California or Indiana, same with hispanics from Miami, Los Angeles or NYC. The racial and ethnic makeup of a city is not enough to understand its culture

I think that for as long as this type of subject is highly in demand...and different races ask where they're population lives (=continuing on the racial path), we're never going to grow as a society. It shouldn't matter which is what race! Really shouldn't. In Europe we don't do this to those who come from Africa...nor do they ever have to ask where their counterparts live! and keep segregating themselves!

What really matters is what one is up too! Are you, (Hispanic or otherwise) looking to love to a nice subdivision and then have 30 people live in your home, and 20 cars parked outside? THAT is what should really matter, that anyone for any race is able to find some common sense and respect for the others living there.

You have a point, although for the sake of civilized discourse I am going to ignore your last sentence. I guess I am use to having to choose between black, white, asian. At some point I asked a teacher , and i was told to write white, I also recall having several of the Latino is not a race conversations, I do remember on the last census I wrote Latino and other for race.

Totally agree with this. And I despise those census boxes that make you choose your race - my father's side was Spanish, my mothers was English, Irish and Cherokee. My maiden name of course was a Spanish one, so did that make me "more Spanish?" And yes, there are white Latinos, black Latinos and even ASIAN Latinos for those who don't know!

Anyway, I could care less about someone's race, and I love living where I do in a city (Sarasota) that is very cosmopolitan with people from all over the country and world. I always thought of Tampa that way as well; and also that Tampa is one of the better integrated cities out there.

There will always be people that "seek out their own" for whatever reason.

wow- white race has nothing to do with anything as it has evolved from many changes in our history from the Romans to the Greeks, Nordick- scandanavians, who knows, but the progressions has been different parts the world, thinks the northen europeans are the last ones to start definening skin colors. My dad said I was white I say, really? and you will say for sure " not" lol- I really do not care, but will fight for celebration of my culture,

Just curious is the color of one's skin related to behaviors? I don't think so.....
