Prius,

I'm with you and we have the same line of thinking. However, our issues, imo, began in 1913 when the federal reserve was created. Fractional reserve lending allows politicians to satisfy those willing to keep them in office. Politicians do what they do because they can. Banks are the same. So remove that and we fix it.

Money is created without backing and lent times over. There is no control mechanism, and let's face it, who doesn't want 'free' things. Banks overlend, governments overspend and nobody, nobody figures out what is going on. With the exception of jfk, who was working to pass an executive order shifting the ownership of the currency to the us gov, all others either dont have a clue or dont care to defend the country.

Remove the federal reserve, who ONLY sets rates, and let the markets drive the value of money and dictate where capital flows. This is the next step in monetary sovereignty, imo, and would prevent irresponsible gov spending, lending, and borrowing.

Ah, yes. I see you understand history as well. You are correct, but I was limiting my explanation to the most dramatic change in the system that changed the course of mortgage lending, basically placing the ball on the tee-ball stand for the morons to hit.

But yes, when looking at the grander scale, you are 100% spot on.

This is why we need more libertarians and fewer others.

I keep trying to rep you, but for some reason it won't let me rep you 1,000 times in a row.

There are more than you think, but there are still many more who still believe the crap the media and politicians spoon feed them.

You have a problem with majority rules? You think what just a few think is more important than what the majority wants and you should be able to impose your wishes on others? Hmmmmm.....SCARY!

I seem to remember back in 2005 or 2006 the government was touting that a higher than ever percentage of the population were now homeowners.

Government loan programs
Builders giving you cash, furniture, home furnishings, TVs and upgrades if you purchased without you having to put down a dime
Lower payments than rent
No payments for 6 months
Sell your house in a year and make $50K+

Ah yes.... those were the days weren't they? They (they as in government, banks, builders, media, financial advisor's, family, etc) made you feel like an idiot if you weren't buying a home. It' the American Dream. Guess what... they left out a few details... everyone can't nor should be a homeowner. Everyone cannot afford a home.

True, but it started earlier than that.

Oh yeah, definitely stated before that, but I think 2004 - 2006 is the peak years where builders, governments and banks were doing everything they could possibly do to get people into homes. I remember when we purchased our first home in a brand new subdivision, we were so proud. Then we were at the community pool and heard people talking about how they couldn't believe they were able to buy a new home after being on section 8 housing.
