Is there a website to check the demographics of certain cities.. We're looking to move but would like accurate information-- I found some cites but they are all very outdated.. Doe anyone know where I can find (on the web) recent demographics?

City of Tampa does a good job with demographic information:
TAMPA FLORIDA USA municipal government - official web site for the City of Tampa, Florida

Always check with the local police to find the most accurate stats as many sites combine areas to get theirs. Do a search on Tampa police and check out their grid reports (by neighborhoods).

if you want to smile and I haven't checked it recently, it's always amusing to read the police log for the city of Indian Shores. The big crimes tend to be illegal parking and speeding above the 30 mile limit, my favourite is 'helping a lost visitor'

Some bigger cities like Tampa, St. Pete sheriff offices have website's with a crime map.
Here is Hillsborough county
HCSO

City-data also has a crime index, although the data is from 2006.

Which cities are you interested in?

Interested in Parrish (not Palmetto!)-- staying away from the bad areas of Palmetto.. We plan on staying for some time, so we wanted a place that would stay safe also..not a place that is going to crap in 5 years

It's hard to find accurate data on what's going to happen in 5 years...

NewFLGal,

You have lived in "west" Bradenton since 06. You should have a pretty good idea of the surrounding area unless you don't get out much. I am also a Chicago suburbs transplant. I've was transferred here in 1990. I spent the first 12 years in a home in Mote Ranch, which is a community north of University Parkway on the Sarasota/Manatee county line. We loved the area but the houses were so close together. In 2004 we built a home on a 1 acre lot in Panther Ridge Preserve, which is in east Manatee county. We are 12 miles east of I-75 on SR-70, about 5 miles east of Lakewood Ranch. The area out this way is pretty much all new. New schools, fire depts, supermarkets, etc. Parrish is a hop skip and a jump from my area. I can take 675 which is about a half mile from my house and I am in Parrish in no time. I think Parrish is a nice area. You would be close to Ellenton, which has supermarkets, stores, etc.
