Due to the Newtown shooting the Hillsbourough County Sheriff's office is doing a gun buy back at 5 locations on Saturday.

You will get $75 and a Tampa Bay Fan Pack with two tickets for a Rays game and two tickets for a TB Lightning game.

Perhaps you can offer the tickets in the event of a home invasion to the criminals.

Criminals will keep the guns...kind of a weird offer don't you think...

Criminals who need guns steal them from homes and use them later on. There were 850 guns stolen from homes last year - and now they're on the street in hands of criminals who can use them against our police force. If we can save one life, then the effort is worth it, imo.

And who knows, maybe an extra gun in someone's closet will be discovered by an unsuspecting child who uses it thinking it's a toy. Maybe a child's life is save. Again - the effort will be worth it, imo.

This is akin to encouraging teetotalers to turn in their cars as a measure to prevent drunk driving.

Yes, and I'm sure those criminals will be lining up on Saturday turning in those guns...LOL.

Okay, I see it's hard for gun nuts to understand.

Who said that this was intended for criminals? Again, this is for people in the community to turn in excess weapons sitting around the homes where children can accidentally discharge them or where criminals can acquire them by breaking into homes to steal them (850 last year).

What else can we give for all the criminals to turn themselves in?

That is a pretty good deal. Criminals can turn in guns, get money and tickets,.

Then they can steal another gun and be ahead of the game.

I would think most guns are worth more than what they are giving. A trip to the pawn shop with the unwanted item(s) would get a better return, or in a private sale.

School shooting: Two wounded in Atlanta - Chicago Tribune

Maybe if this family had a weapon turn-in program it wouldn't have fallen into the hands of their school-aged teen who took the gun to school today.
