We're looking to rent a place in the Historic Kenwood area located around 8th Ave N and 27th St. My husband and I are in our mid 20s, we like to take walks with our dog, sit on our front porch, etc. We're coming from DC so when I say safe I mean can we do the above things without a high risk of being mugged, etc or having our house broken into. We're well aware and have street smarts ie I won't be walking to the ATM at 1230 at night or be leaving my doors unlocked. Also, how accessible is this area to downtown and the beaches? Seems like a pretty great location after looking on the map.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello,
I believe this to be a safe area of St. Petersburg. As you know, anything can happen anywhere, but we pride ourselves on being able to do just the very things you are talking about. Sitting on the front, walking the dog, etc. Here in Historic Kenwood, we have a very active neighborhood association that works to keep things safe by encouraging people to do those very things. We are but a short walk to the Grand Central District where there are a lot of places to shop and eat. As for downtown, it is a about 25 block or 10 minutes and the beaches are about 15 to 20 minutes. We are right in the niddle of it all. For more info go to HistoricKenwood.org or Eat, Shop and Play in Grand Central District! to see all of the activities that are planned.

I'm very interested in moving to Kenwood also! However, I haven't found any homes for rent. What are some property management groups that might have some Kenwood area homes available?

Ten, fifteen years ago, Kenwood was pretty rough but it's really nice now. I had friends that lived right around the corner from you and they loved it.

I'm glad to hear some positive feedback about the area! I love all of the little bungalow homes and it's still close to downtown St. Pete without the Old NE prices. Anyone have some good suggestions on things to do in the area other than the beach? We'll be moving back at the end of March so hopefully it won't be scorching hot yet!

Thanks!

Another rental we are looking at is around 4th Ave and 20th Street. How is this area? Any feedback is greatly appreciated seeing as we are not currently living in FL and unable to check it out for ourselves. Thanks!

This annual event will take place in Seminole Park at 2900 3rd. Food will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. and games and activities will last until 3:00 p.m. There will be sack races and a scavenger hunt for the kids. Don’t forget to wear green. So, bring your appetite and a lawn chair for a gathering of family and friends to celebrate our great neighborhood.
Saturday evening starting at 4:00 p.m., we will take to our Grand Central District to begin a pub crawl starting at Steel City Brewhouse. We will then go down Central Avenue to various local pubs for spirits and it’s consumption at many of the great establishments along Central Avenue. The Founders Day Event sounds great! Unfortunately we'll just miss it, we're moving the following week. I'll have to keep checking for other events though!

Roadtrip, 4th Ave North.

There is a porch party each month where a neighbor opens their home for a pot luck. There is also the city's art walk on the second Saturday of each month. So there is always something going on. Just to be sure, we consider renters Kenwoodians too.
