You cannot live in Florida without driving. Tampa doesn't have a "huge" music scene...Miami might...we get concerts here at the Forum occasionally...but a "huge scene" it is not.

Maybe take a weekend and come and visit...Melbourne is not that far.
Thanks for the info about downtown. I wasn't sure whether it was just businesses or if it actually had some arts and culture stuff.

I'm not looking for a "huge" music scene. But I do know there are a couple indie folk bands that are Tampa-based and there is a radio station I'd love to volunteer for.

When my daughter and I went downtown for the express purpose of parking and getting out and walking around downtown, in St. Petersburg that is, there was a restaurant/bar with outside seating where a guy was playing the sax and it was really neat. Also, there was a place where someone was singing ....not sure, maybe jazz or R & B. Lots of folks out sitting at cafes, restaurants, bars we walked past. Never felt unsafe and was quite fun. None of them seemed to be packed but I would imagine its different on the weekends.

On Sat. mornings from October thru May they have the Saturday Morning Market in downtown. We went to that and it was really neat. Crafts, fresh fruits and veggies, plants, a tye-dye shop or two, etc. Lots of fun! And food cooking. Yum!

St Pete has more of an "artsy" scene, but again, you will have to come and see if it fits with your likings.

I think you may actually enjoy Sarasota more than both Tampa or St. Pete. It smaller, but more walkable, and it has an awesome downtown, lots of arts, and gorgeous beaches.

Thanks, I'll check out Sarasota! I'm very new to FL so I truly appreciate the advice.
