Hi,
My wife and my two kids have been thinking about moving to the Tampa area for a while now. We decided to finally do it at the end of the school year in 2008. I need some advice, the positives and negatives, the school system. I was thinking about moving to brandon. My wife is a nurse and I work in sales for a tele-comunications company which is located in Orlando and Sarasota. How's the driving there? Which area in the West of Florida has the most hospitals?

Thanks for all your help!!

If you are working in between offices in Sarasota and Orlando, maybe homes in the I-75 corridor would work for you. Nice schools around Lakewood Ranch, Fishhawk Ranch.
The big hospitals are in Tampa itself, Tampa General would be a bit of drive across Crosstown.
However, St Petersburg is great for All Childrens, Bayfront, and several others. With our aging and growing populations, we serve many and there are numerous hospitals.
I'm amazed at how many there are. All Childrens/Bayfront and Tampa general are and have been undergoing zillion dollar growth programs and additions. Schools vary, there are excellent all level schools in both Hillsborough and Pinellas, depends on what age group. A schools in both counties. Coming from the North East you may find that there is more patchy education, however I have children in one of the top 100 schools in the USA (annual newsweek publication) and there are a couple in Pinellas/Hillsborough.

I hope you can telecommute or are happy driving a lot. Although people do it, I would not fancy commuting to Orlando from Brandon, it really is a long way. If you are thinking to be central between Orlando and Sarasota, however, its probably a good spot.

Spainbrit has answered pretty well, Brandon area is fine, and popular - have a quick search on the forum, same questions have been asked many times, lots of good advice. There is also local hospital in Brandon itself and numerous medical practises.

I live here in Brandon and have been here a few years. Fishhawk is nice, but pricey. There are other nice areas around here with good schools. You can go to Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) to check out the schools in the area. Riverview is right next to Brandon and growing, there are alot of nice new communities popping all over the area. hospitals here are Brandon Regional-Close-but Tampa General and St. Joseph's are a bit of a drive. If you offices are in Sarasota and Orlando you are looking at about 45-1 hr. of a drive to both places, the downside-I-4 to Orlando is the worst! and traffic going both ways suck.
