Hello all,

I am thinking about relocating to New Port Richey from Long Island, NY. I would be coming down single, with a pension, and I'm 53 years old. I have a few relatives in the area, but really only one friend.

I was originally going to look in southeast Florida, but the person that was going to help me relocate there backed out, and I really don't know many people in SE Florida. I am afraid/nervous about going to SE Florida alone, so I am considering NPR as an alternative.

I do prefer the ocean to the gulf, and I like some diversity in the population.

Anyway, my friend that lives in NPR tells me there is nightlife there, and even more in Tampa. I'm sure there is much more in Tampa, but I'm not sure it's what I want. I have another married friend in Spring Hill and he said he would not consider NPR if he were single.

I have also heard quite a few negative things about NPR on this forum and elsewhere (do not read Urban Dictionary!, LOL)

So, what do you people think? Is this a good area, or is there too much drugs, section 8 housing, and the like?

I have only really been in the area once for dinner, but have driven the length of US 19 several times.

How about the amount of single people in the 40-55 range? Is this area dead, just OK, or does it have a lot of singles?

I think a lot of people view New Port Richey right along HWY 19. There are many areas on the outskirts of New Port Richey that have nice homes in and out of subdivisions. Get over by Little Road. There are a lot of homes, built close together in sections of the city.

We go over to dinner along the water from time to time and really enjoy ourselves. We are mid to late 40's, still like to stay active and while we don't live there, we do go. They have all the food places from fast food, Hooters, and some places to eat seafood (wife and I call them fishing camps - but really they are places to eat along the water that serve great fish).

As far as being Single, I wouldn't worry about meeting people down here. If you like to get out, you'll meet people in that age group.

If you are thinking about buying please do your research on sinkholes and flood areas. Getting close to the water means flood and in Western Pasco County they are much more prone to sinkholes than even 10 miles East.

Before you judge on some negative and positive feedback please click on the search button and check out some peoples previous post because some are always negative and have nothing good to say due to personal loss of money that they invested in the area and basically were dumb investments.

There are a few that keep writing over and over and it they have nothing positive to say at all which I in my opinion not normal otherwise no home would be sold in the area and everybody would move out which clearly is not the case.

You can always research the sheriff's website to look for crime and other info.

Many people are buying in the area right now and home prices are slowly going up while other streets might take a little bit longer but inventory is down.

Like every where else there are older areas that have been harder hit than other areas and some are in a flood zone mostly west of US 19 due to closer to the coast.

There are areas in Tampa and every other city like where you are living that probably are not so gret, the same counts for every area....

Thanks for all the info people. Thanks for the feedback.

So, as far as being early 50's and being able to go to a bar/restaurant with an adult type singles crowd (not Hooters, LOL).

Are there choices, or not?
