Tampa itself is very diverse and I don't think you'll have any issues here (I'm sure they'll be a few *ssholes, but they are everywhere). Check out New Tampa and Wesley Chapel for good schools and plenty to do for families.

Daycare for a two year old at a center will be roughly $800.

You probably want to look around the New Tampa area, to be close to USF and possible find that larger home you need. Good luck!
The schools were segregated in Tampa up until and including the 70s, hardly a melting pot.

I agree with this assessment. If by diversity people mean there are blacks, Hispanics, whites, and Asians around, then yes. But that does not mean it's a breezy mix. I find that people in this area self-segregate a lot. I've lived in New York City before and this ain't NYC. If you're black don't head out to the rural parts, as someone else mentioned earlier.

My ex-wife is black, I'm white, we actually had a lot of stares and snide comments made towards us each time we visited Tampa (2007 & 2009) and it was fairly bad in parts of Louisiana as well, ironically we never had problems in Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, or Houston, go figure.

OP, Don't worry about it. People are always going to talk and make comments. People rarely, if ever, get violent or do things towards you, no matter where you live.

I live in Seminole Heights and I've met a few interracial couples here who moved to this neighborhood because of its tolerant attitude. The neighborhood is fairly convenient to USF and features many bungalow style houses from the 1920's.

You and your family will be fine in Tampa. I think New Tampa or Wesley Chapel would probably be convenient to USF.

I have several interracial couples and they have had no problems in Tampa. One couple lives in Land o Lakes which is more rural area so I don't know what some of these folks are referring to.

Honestly what happened in Tampa 40 years ago is hardly indicative of today. I lived in a very diverse neighborhood in Tampa and there were never any problems. The people who dislike Tampa can find fault will always post negative comments.
