Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
A hole from a water main break ain't a sink hole. It's just a hole.

"There seems to be no shortage of water near this one"

True. Yikes! And here I am patting myself on the back thinking I might be somewhat safe being near a pond.

Well what about all the other red dots right on top of Tampa? Are they all water main breaks too? LOL

That's just it - you really have no idea WHAT they are - some amount to very little. Please stop being so hysterical.

As far as the one in the picture near water, well I am guessing that is just a man-made retention pond, which doesn't mean anything. Some of you need to get a grip here.

Ummmmm....I'm not being hysterical.....LOL

I am just discussing sinkholes and questioning how some can think the red dots over Tampa are not really sinkholes, but the same red dots over the suburbs are sinkholes. That doesn't make any sense.

I told you, they put a red dot to indicate ANY activity no matter how small - could be just a couple inches of settling. I just confirmed this with my husband, who is an architect managing HUGE projects (first for USF, now Hillsborough County) In over 20 years with these agencies he has only encountered a few minor issues around USF. ZERO for downtown Tampa. So please quit getting everyone worked up over nothing.

Seriously, how often has a tragedy like this occurred? Yes, it happens, but all of a sudden everyone thinks they are now going to be swallowed up by a giant sinkhole..... whatever - LOL!

Down here in Bradenton/Sarasota there is virtually NO sinkhole activity.

Well, I am not getting anyone "worked up". This thread is talking about sinkholes in general. It is not about the one unfortunate situation. The thread is to help educate people about sinkholes and/or have questions answered. Talking about sinkholes is not hysteria or working people up. It is a simple discussion. No reason to avoid the subject, as we are in sinkhole season right now..... Another home evacuated as Florida "sinkhole season" hits - CBS News
