I'm brand new here and looking to relocate my family to Florida. We are looking at a rental in the Gulf Harbors subdivision. I've read alot of posts about how terrible NPR is, but that Gulf Harbors is nice. I know it's the only way we can afford a house on a deep water canal with a pool, but I don't have to have all that if we're not safe. So, my question is...Is Gulf Harbors a safe community? My husband and I are both mid 40s and we have an 8 year old daughter. He travels 3 weeks a month, so I need to know if you think it's not worth the risk for basically a single mom. Also...how far would the commute be to Tampa Airport?

Thank you for any and all responses!!

All in all it's about the best you will find in the area. Just make sure you know what it will cost to insure your home before buying, the price may shock ya. About 24 miles to the airport or so.

It is more like 30 miles and probably 50 minutes to get there.

It's all about your perspective of where you are coming from.

It was 28 miles from my house in Portrichey to my house in Danashores. So it is not 30 miles from the GH area to the airport.

It takes about 40 minutes to get to the airport. And it's safe for a single mom IMHO.

Google maps disagrees.

As does mapquest, my question would be why someone would be so contentious as to bring this up over a couple of miles. Especially using the argument that it is 28 miles from West Port to Dana Shores, it can be 2-3 miles driving just to get from some streets in Dana Shores to get to TPA parking. I guess he would want people to take his word again rather than believing mapquest and google maps.

Westport is a good bit north of the GH area. So you can fight me again all ya want like ya always do. All i can say is it was 28 miles from my house in PR to my house in Danashores. In fact today i have to make a run to my house in Westport so i will see how far it is to the GH area.

Default Thanks for the information

We are coming from Cincinnati, OH, so a 40-50 minute ride to the airport 2X a month is no biggie. I work from home, so commuting won't be a problem for me.

We are renting for the first year to make sure we like it, so homeowners insurance won't be an issue. I'll need to look into renter's insurance though.

Thanks for all of the replies. We will be down next week to check out houses. So excited!!!

Tina
