Hello,
I am currently looking for an apartment in the Tampa area. I already have several jobs waiting for me, including one at All Children's in St. Pete which is the one I'm most interested in. I'll eventually be attending USF to get my masters degree but I don't mind having to commute to school. I'll be moving down with my fiance and my dog, my fiance is military so there will be times that he will be gone for awhile, so I would prefer to be in a reasonably safe area. The closer I am to the water the better, I love being able to walk or ride my bike a majority of places. I also would like to keep the rent in the $900/950 range, preferably at least a 2/1 but a decent sized 1/1 would be fantastic. I don't nessecarily have to be in the St. Pete area since I have other job offers in the Tampa area, so any suggestions for other areas would be appreciated! Thanks so much

My advise is to come down, take the job offer and get a hotel for a week or two.

Drive around(say 10 miles or so or whatever is comfortable for you) from your workplace and decide on it.

I agree.

People that say "oh this area is great" is just subjective. You may think it sucks. You may think something that other people think is horrible is actually not bad at all, which I find VERY often compared to the opinions on here.

take the job you want most, get a hotel for a week, drive/walk around, and do what jives with you best.

This is so true.

One man's paradise is another man's junkyard. People are different and like different things.

Look at Costa del Sol condos, in nice Seminole area, 3 mins to beach in car - close to grocery shops etc, good access via cross county roads to highway and they are about $950 for a 2/1. I have an elderly friend who lives there with her husband - in their 80/90s and they like it and feel comfortable and safe. Nice park for walking dog, right by Pinellas trail for bike/walking and a park round the corner - actually two! Is a very safe area, worth a look I would say. They do take pets too, which you need to consider. They are not all old in there, quite a few folks with younger children, a lot of people live here til they find their home to buy. Good luck with your move and college. Its only about 20 mins to ACH if you work there, in fact a really good friend of mine, who worked there in intensive care for a number of years, lived at Costa Del Sol til she purchased her home in same area.
