I am a 26 year old male military service member, and I will be moving to the Tampa area in July to work at MacDill AFB. I am interested in renting an apartment that is within a 20 or so minute drive from base, that will also offer access to good night life, local restaurants, etc. My budget is anywhere up to $1800 a month for a good place. I am looking for something with modern amenities, new appliances, washer/dryer in the unit, and secure parking/restricted access if possible. An area that draws in and tailors to young professionals in general would be a plus.

Are there any neighborhoods, areas, or apartment complexes that you would recommend checking out? Any unsafe areas or particular places to avoid? What are some of the hot spots around the city that I might want to check out once I arrive?

Thanks for the help!

Harbor Island, Davis Islands, Hyde Park, Downtown Tampa highrise apartments near Curtis Hixon Park. Drive to MacDill via Bayshore BLVD (15 mins). There are a couple a new high rises across from the Glazers' Childrens Museum that look inviting - not sure what their parking situation is.

Thanks for your service to our country, by the way.

I agree with BucFan here. Any of those areas he (or she) mentioned are worth checking out.

The specific high rises BucFan mentioned (Element and Skypoint) are both extremely nice. Element being a apartment rentals, Skypoint being condos. The base monthly rate at Element is a around 1,400 a month, so with your budget you will be able to get to extra sq. footage.

That being said, I can test to the fact that Element is very nice both from the outside and inside. They are labeled as "luxury apartments", which I think they are. They have the washer/dryer, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, etc. Parking is restricted and enclosed and it also has good security, the only con is that it's quite the process if you want to have guests over.

You could also look in the Channelside area as well.

But it will take you 1.5 hours to drive it! lol

Same 1.5 hours gets you from Tampa to Disney World in Orlando according to a few others so go figure...
