Hi, I am seeking some advice or information. My mother is up in age and I would like to go see her. My problem is that the airfares are way too much and so is Amtrak for some reason. I was thinking of going by Greyhound. Has anyone ever done this trip? I know its very long and knowing how I am, I will be mortified because I wont be able to shower but I suppose I would have to put that aside to make sure my mother was ok. I am on a fixed income and unfortunately do not really have family to rely on to help me with the fare. Tampa to NY is around 80.00 one way...

Thank you.

Not sure when you are looking to go but you can find Jet Blue flights for as low as $120 one way.

Only $40 more than Greyhound

I rode on a Greyhound once... and will never do it again. It was from Seattle, WA to Salem, OR. This is a 3 - 3.5 hour drive. It turned into an 8 hour bus trip including the connection. It was very uncomfortable and seemed like it went on forever.

Being on one of those things for over 24 hours... you're braver than I am. As cjurdy showed, $40 more to fly would well be worth it. You'll spend at least that much on eating out for the 27+ hour trip.

Did Fort Lauderdale to New York roundtrip many moons ago by bus.
Would never do it again. Sheer torture.

Default thanks

Thank you for the information, I had a feeling it would be terrible and I will look into flying. Nothing better than getting it from people who have done it. BTW I will be going to Orange County, NY, near Goshen.

Allegient flies NS from PIE to Stewart airport in Orange County, NY. Looking ahead at various dates, it's only $125 Round trip, base price. Good luck in getting to see your Mom.
