The heavy rain today.....in the coastal towns of Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor.....showed me it is time for new tires on my truck. While there is still tread left, the amount of heavy rain today had my tires spinning every time I went to take off.....even slowly. So after 50,000 miles on the factory tires, it's time for new rubber.

Where in the north half of Pinellas County or very southwestern Pasco County is a reputable place to buy tires from?

Thanks!

Do you belong to Costco?

I only buy Michelin. They are worth the cost over cheap brands or no-names.

I love Michelins. Got them on my wife's SUV. Not a Costco member though.

There are probably 100 different tire retailers located on U.S. 19 from 60 up to Tarpon Springs...not to mention all of the others on different roads in Pinellas......

Oh, and by the way......around here- "East Lake" or anything east of US 19 is not considered "coastal" by any sane person who has lived here for more than 5 minutes.

I know you're looking for north county, but if you can't find anyone and decide you don't mind the drive, Kauffman Tire on Tyrone in St. Pete is the only place I will go. They are very reasonably priced, honest, and do a great job. TYRONE Kauffman Tire Store - St Petersburg Area Tires, Wheels and Auto Services

Silly PriusH8r.... you live in Florida now. Haven't you noticed that there are many, many cars on the road with tires that have no tread left? Obviously this is a safe practice otherwise Florida would have safety inspections or ticket these people for having unsafe tires. I mean.... it doesn't snow or get icy here.... so who really needs tread?

Seriously though. I commend you for recognizing you need new tires and ones that perform well in the rain. I truly believe that too many people around here are driving on tires that become surfboards in the rain here.

I have a set of aftermarket Pirelli's on my van. They are a great rain tire and have worn better than any other tire I have ever owned. You may want to use TireRack to shop for your tires. They have great data and customer reviews. Makes it easy to compare tires. Once you determine which set you like, find the appropriate dealers and call all of them.

One more thing. Since trucks are light in the rear, they will always spin their tires easily. One way to combat this is by having a load in the bed (ie; sand bags).
