I've spent hours researching and reading the forums. After some help, and more reading I've learned about nice areas around Tampa.

I'm curious how many Canadians moved to the Tampa area, and how are you liking it?

We have a cold cold winter here, -40 at times.
We do get long summer days, dark at 10pm, which is nice.

We have a two year old son, and one of my biggest issues is leaving family.
We visit my parents twice a week, it would be hard to leave them.
However, my girlfriend's dad and his wife live in NC and are looking to move
to Tampa area as well. But I'd obviously miss my own family.
Sure we can visit, and they can visit, but it would still be a big change
from twice a week.

Can anyone from up north share their experiences on their move? And
how it is now?

My husband lived in Toronto before he moved here to Tampa, and he loves it. He didn't have any family there, so I can't really speak about that, but he feels the weather here has had a huge impact on his quality of life.

Next to New Yorkers, I think Canadians are the biggest transplant population - noticeable during Winter months - so they must be snowbirding.

Don't take it personally, but a common joke around here is the definition of pleasure is seeing a Canadian headed up I-75 with a New Yorker under each arm.

But seriously, without the snowbirders and the economic benefits they bring, our state would be poorer than it already is.

I'm a Canadian snowbirder. That's a nice spot to be in, because I don't have to deal with the heat in Florida in the summer. Although I would love to spend as much as eight months there, instead of the six that we're allowed. I do have a younger friend who lives there, who's a Torontonian. She loves it, but doesn't have kids and therefore schools to worry about, and her family is not a big issue for her.

Yeah having the kid is the concern. I work from home so being a young snowbird wouldn't be an issue, but with him going to school soon, obviously can't be doing that.

Be aware that schools in Florida are generally worse than average. You will need to pay special attention to what school your child is zoned for.

That seems to be incorrect or at least outdated info. According to this site, FL ranks 6th nationwide..
