Forgive me, I've never been to the area before so just need a little help. If I am staying at the southernmost end of St. Petersburg, by that bridge 275 / 19, how long will it take to drive to the airport on a typical Monday morning around 8:00? Are traffic backups common or will it probably just take the 1/2 hour my map estimates? Thanks for your help.

I would probably allow 45 min. It should be smooth at that time, but there is always a good chance that traffic will be bottlenecked on the Howard Frankland going into Tampa.

From all the way down here it's 40 minutes with no traffic. I would add another 20 minutes at least, just in case.

With no traffic it's 40 minutes? Do you drive 30MPH all the way? lol

I have to drive down the bayway and jump on 275. Total 40 minutes at 70mph (on 275, obviously).

I was assuming the OP wouldn't be directly at the foot of an on ramp and would need an additional several minutes to find one.

My husband is afraid of heights and gets a little stressed driving on bridges over water. I'll be doing the driving, but he'll still be nervous as a passenger. Are the bridges pretty wide / spacious or are they the narrower kind where you feel like you're right on the edge? Is traffic on the bridges normally pretty smooth during "rush hours"? Thanks again.

Depends...I believe you said the flight is at 8? Where will you be driving from? Downtown St. Pete...I would give yourself a good 45 extra minutes...if there is an accident on the bridge-you will sit in traffic forever with no alternative (can't get off the bridge).

No, the Howard Franklin in big bridge..you aren't going over (not height wise anyway). It's nice...sometimes you will see dolphins..

I think we should get to the airport by 9:00 to return the rental car and catch our flight at 10:55. If problems on the bridge are common, I'd probably prefer to switch to a hotel closer to the airport for my last night there.

To be honest I'm having a little difficulty selecting a hotel in the Tampa / St. Pete area. We are touring the areas from Naples up to Tampa / Clearwater next month. We have our hotels booked for the spots further south but still need to pick our lodging in the Tampa area. I was considering this place St. Petersburg FL Hotel - Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove because pools are very important to me (and they have not 1 but 2 that overlook the bay) but the location puts me in a bit of a precarious spot if there should be trouble on the bridge the morning I need to get to the airport to fly home..

Anyway, very excited to visit. Just researching all the little details to ensure we can make the most of our time there.
