Looks like progress is happening again........for good or bad is perception.

Dirt lot parking at Tampa's Bayshore Blvd. may end - WFLA-TV News Channel 8

"The 15-story tower would have 32 units, floor to ceiling glass windows, and range from 2,600 to 3,500 square feet."

I agree, changing a dirt lot into just about anything other than a dirt lot is probably a good thing.....

However, and I know you'll think I'm just being negative here.........

But if they sell all 32 units....most people/spouses/families have a least 2 cars.......so that's up to 64 more cars on that stretch of road day in and day out that weren't there before.....

This has happened along the coast of Pinellas, old- single family properties bulldozed down in favor of high rise condos that increase the amount of car traffic exponentially per acre of land......

I would rather see a business, a park, ect......than another damn condo complex.....

We don't need any more condos in Florida......

But, they have always built things down here before there is "a need" for them......that is, in the privately owned real estate development industry........"if we build it...they will come"

Now, if we could just get our infrastructure projects to work that way...we'd be in better shape. Instead of always being 15yrs behind the times in improving the roads to accommodate the huge population explosion (especially in Pinellas)........it's almost as if they're surprised that people moved here?

I know a lot of runners, bikers will be disappointed that they will have one less place to park when they go out for that great run/bike on Bayshore Blvd. Even a parking metered lot would have been okay for them, I'm sure.

We need more in downtown/south Tampa though. By bringing in another complex, it will lower the inflated prices we are currently seeing. That will cause more people to move downtown and growth to occur.

What about the whole concept of "getting away from sprawl"?

I assume you are implying that it would be better to build 32 single family homes over a 10 acre field.

This is precisely what South Tampa needs. This building in 33629 and the hundreds of units under construction right now in 33606 (post properties at howard/swann, condos at fig and rome) are increasing the density that is necessary to support local businesses. These few hundred units present a shot in the arm for local retail, restaurants, etc, and this increase in density plus increased property values is already making the areas north of Kennedy more ripe for development.

More density, please. I'll gladly sacrifice all the dirt parking lots in South Tampa for more of this.

Shame we can't just pluck some of the empty buildings in south Florida and plant them around here.

It's a bit late for that argument. South Tampa residents have already spoken. That's why it is illegal for non-residents to park on side streets in most neighborhoods south of Kennedy. They don't want you there.
