I am moving also and have found there are only a few good people that will respond with good advise. Ill be in Tampa Sat night for 5 days trying to lock on a rental as I just got a renter for my house that I own. What I have found is it all depends on where you are going to work and what you are looking for. My husband and I are a mature couple with a daughter going into her junior yr of HS so we are looking at the Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, Land O lakes, Lutz area. My husband will be working on the north side of Tampa. I wish u the best of luck cause I know this move is stressing me out, I only had a five week notice and my husband is still in Afghanistan so I am doing it all on my own.

It really depends on what you want. For subdevelopment suburban living, New Tampa and Lutz are the way to go. Citrus park is an option as well. West Chase, too. If you want more integrated living options, you would look in South Tampa and North East St. Petersburg. If one is working in Tampa, I would not recommend living in Pinellas county, though. Vice versa is a bit easier, but still far from ideal.

Best family neighborhood I've ever seen/lived in in Tampa was Virginia Park. Simply a great neighborhood. Hyde Park is a pricier option, but has a lot of the Peter Pan syndrome (IOW, VP has a more mature mindset).

Oh, you mention condos or apartments. Again, it depends on where you're working and what your style is. If its South Tampa living, I can recommend anything by Hyde Park Apartments, Post Hyde Park, or Mosaic Westshore. The Place and Seaport Village (both in Channelside) are also very nice. Channelside is a struggling entertainment area adjacent to downtown.

I think you will find a lot of people on here who are willing and ready to respond but we need a few more criteria than somewhere clean and safe. What is your budget? Where will you be working? What do you like to do (ie. is it important to be near nightlife, beaches, etc.). Do schools matter? There are a lot of clean and safe areas in Tampa, but telling us a little more will help. There are many, many threads on here asking similar question….read through a few to get some ideas of things you may find important or areas you may be interested in.

Clean & safe would include (without limitation) the following:
South Tampa / Hyde Park / Soho
Westchase
Carrollwood
New Tampa
Channelside
River Oaks

Which of these (or some other area) might make the most sense for you will depend on what other criteria you have.

We could tell, but where's work? There are many areas in Tampa that area "clean & safe", but they could be within a horrible commute from your work.

Not all of Carrollwood is "clean & safe" actually. New Tampa & Westchase are cookie cutter 100%. South Tampa has areas that are not very attractive, and its crowded and people drive very entitled there. Channelside is deserted most of the time.

You could also add Valrico (Bloomingdale East and Fishhawk) to the list as well. Large contingent of career and retired military in these areas.
