I have very negative experience with ink companies selling cartridges on Amazon. Yes, it was cheaper, but it was expired/starter cartridge instead of regular. maybe it's me, but for last couple items I ordered at Amazon I received all of it without original packages.

Their prime with free shipping cost $119 now? Not so free if you ask me.
I've never used the river, I use the bay and some other sites instead. Most of my buying experiences online have been positive. As far as "saving" on taxes, you're supposed to pay sales tax on any purchases you make on line, at the rate charged by your particular county in Florida. I file and pay these quarterly. It's not the money that bugs me so much as it is the admin involved. A real PITA.

In the long run, I expect Amazon to branch out into other areas. Didn't they innovate with their reader? I never use readers, so my recollection is fuzzy on that, but I seem to think they were first to the market?

Most people do not pay taxes for online purchases and this is exactly was I was talking about then I said it was cheaper to buy on Amazon by 6-7%...

As for the reader (Kindle?) - I prefer real book instead and do not have kindle or anything like that. I am not sure if they were first on the market with this.

Prices on Amazon fluctuate daily. You can put things in your cart and when you check your cart each day Amazon will tell you what's gone up or down. I do this with cat food and vitamins and buy low. I absolutely love Amazon prime. It's $99 btw, not $119, up form $79. Worth it to me because I don't have cable or satellite and use Amazon Prime instant video for most of my tv watching. It's the same price as Netflix so I'm not really paying for any shipping on things I buy at Amazon. Amazon just made a deal with HBO too, so they're going to have some of their shows and movies exclusively. Not great for Netflix. Also, if you have a Kindle, Amazon lets you have a book a month. If you're a reader, that pays for the Prime membership as well.

Amazon also has amazing customer service - no hassle returns. If you buy expired ink cartridges, you can send them back for a full refund. Make sure you also leave appropriate feedback for the seller. You have to check the seller you're buying from if it's not Amazon - just like on Ebay.

Well said. Very well run company. Just returned a DVD that was somehow defective - absolutely no problems. I like Prime for the streams for movies/tv shows along w/ shipping (save gas that I didn't need to use as well as time to go to Walmart).

There's a special offer on Amazon's homepage right now to select customers. $50 to $75 off Kindles and Kindle Fires. The plain Kindle comes out to $19 and the Paperwhite is $44. Worth it for the free monthly books you can get. If you don't see the offer you might see it on the actual Kindle page. It was right on homepage for me. Hope it's there for whoever would like one.

Here is a list of the jobs that Amazon is currently hiring for in Ruskin, in case anyone is interested. Most of these are management/maintenance engineering/administrative/operations etc. Not too shabby.

You're welcome. From the look of it, these are some pretty decent jobs, requiring some skills. I just hope people apply for them.

On another note, one thing I find interesting (I follow certain aspects of the job market here on an informal basis, just to get an idea of what's happening) is that certain retail related jobs in the area (mostly for vendors who work with the big box stores) have hiked their hourly part time wage by 2-5 bucks. My personal take is that they're doing this because of the "Amazon effect".

They have to retain employees that might jump on board to Amazon?

I saw a medical job available. That's the kind of stuff I could easily do (OSHA, Health/Wellness, Emergency Care). Intriguing, but my license is in TX, my EMT has expired and there's too many Rays games, Bucs games, golf, tennis, concerts, fishing, other things to do. I don't think Amazon would give me the time off if I requested it.

You never know, BucFan. I would definitely give it a go if I were you, what's the worst that could happen? They may even have a job-sharing program, some companies do. If they like your qualifications, they may even pay for the necessary certifications to be brought into compliance.

And yes, businesses in the area will have to compete with Amazon for personnel. That's how the free market works. A former employer offered me a decent raise if I wanted to come back, which I don't, but it's nice to know it's there if I needed it.

This Amazon deal is a big win for the area.
