I've noticed a great lack of ice cream and hot dog/drive in restaurants. What gives? You'd think they would be all over the place because of the outdoor climate.

I've got a Sonic and a Twistee Treat that are both local and there's a few other Sonic locations in the TB area.

Used to be A&W and Dog n Suds around. Steak N Shake had car hops at one time, also. When the weather gets cooler, the Sonics near me get busy but they're empty during the hot months (which seems to be most of the time). Kind of defeats the purpose of a drive-in if you have to sit in your car with the A/C running.

There's about 10 ice cream places on St Pete Beach; change your location.

It's hotter than Hades here for half the year so the premise of driving up, shutting off your car and having a hot burger or hot dog isn't something there's a great desire for. Ice Cream is another story and there are several examples below.

This place is a Brandon area landmark. It has lines around the parking lot every time I drive by.

You have Bo's on Florida Ave and also Dairy Joy in South Tampa on Manhattan...both very old establishments. Dairy Joy is my favorite of them all.

Campbell's over in Brandon off Parson's is also good if you live that way (they have great burgers, too).

Over in St. Pete there is a place on MLK called Dairy something.
