I ran into this Family Budget Calculator which compares living expenses for different geographical areas. I thought it would be helpful for those considering the Tampa area and the financial differences between your current area. The site is the Economic Policy Institute

I would say it is pretty good estimate for the median family even for housing. At first, I thought their estimate was low. But when I crunched the number for the median home expense, I came close to what they reported. I personally have less in health care expense on monthly basis than their estimate but otherwise I would say pretty good estimate for the median family .

Thanks for sharing.

I just hope people keep in mind that those appear to be median-to-lower numbers.

The housing seems to be on the very low end. I don't think I could even begin to hope to find housing for those prices that would work for us. Other than that it seems fairly accurate.

My first impression too. But if you account the fact that the median home is between 130K to 140K, the estimate really works.

I am not sure about other people, but this culculator gave very VERY low monthly housing cost (is it including electric and water bills???) and VERY low monthly child care cost (like twice lower than it's actially is).

I mean to rent an appartments will cost way more than it was calculater there unless you are willing to rent somewhere in getto...

I was assuming they included the child with transport, food, necessities and health care... because I don't spend near that amount for any of those.

I was thinking $5 for health care, mainly from OTC headache medicine.
