From the article: "It costs roughly 50 dollars a day to incarcerate one homeless person for one day. And during the last homeless count that took place, we had 356 homeless people in jail," she said. "With those numbers we spent about 6.6 million dollars a year in Hillsborough County alone just on incarcerating the homeless."

"Most of the crimes have nothing to do with anything that would actually harm anybody. They're being arrested for loitering or trespassing," Mole continued.

Homeless who are in jail aren't exactly homeless, are they? So that would mean there are no homeless people jailed. For once they are jailed, they are in a small home.

At least is not Miami Beach where they are trying to criminalize any life sustaining activity such as eating. The Tampa ordinance is for sleeping so anyone sleeping in a public place, that ought to be interesting.

I tend to avoid areas where transients/homeless congregate - like parks in ST Pete and Tampa. No one wants to be always looking over their shoulder wondering if they're going to be robbed, attacked, murdered. Guess the city is figuring out that there are other citizens who are also staying away from those areas as well. Downtown is a ghosttown during weekends and evenings except for the transients with shopping carts.
