Hello: Moving to Tampa/St. Pete area in a month, and my fiance and I aren't sure of where to look for an apartment.

Here are the basics to give you the best idea of our lifestyle 'needs'. (He's from Jacksonville, originally...but I'm really wanting Gulf Coast due to family living on that side.)

We are both in our mid 40's, no kids. I currently work from home in IT, and need to travel every three weeks. We aren't wild partiers, preferring casual get together with friends. We are both fiends for hanging out at the beach. (which, shockingly, isn't abundant in Missouri. :-) I would like to be close to Tampa area so that, in the event I want to find another job someday, seems my opportunities are better. He is a self-employed home improvement guy (specializes in concrete counters and fixtures.)

I know that I've found some places that kind of excite me, but I also don't want to wind up moving there and realizing I'm in the middle of 'Cops' central, or some place full of Sun Pac employees who party long into the night.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First thing that comes to mind, if you haven't already been through - our airport is ***awesomeeeeeee*** . As another family that frequently travels for business - it was one of our considerations when thinking of moving back here (we lived in Overland Park for 3 years also, so some experience out there). As far as locale - it really depends what is important to you, Tampa metro area is quite large and sprawling.

Mainly - proximity to beach/fishing (the SO is an avid fisherman - preferring shore fishing.). We seem to be both favoring St. Pete/Clearwater. I would prefer, if my job situation changes, that my commute stay reasonable. I'd prefer an apartment complex, just because I think it present more of an opportunity to meet people. My SO loves to try new restaurants and stuff.

I've heard avoiding south St. Pete is wise - but are their specific neighborhoods that people are referring to?

OPK - did you get tired of the constant road construction?
