I had been planning to buy a house before I moved to Tampa but after some research I have decided that it might be a better idea for me to rent for a while. I have 2 dogs, so that limits the number of places I can rent.

Jefferson Westshore Apartments (still in the process of being built) is in SouthTampa at 6608 S Westshore Blvd. They allow 2 dogs and are in my price range. Can any of you tell me anything about the neighborhood? Is it safe?
I am not planning on staying there more than a few months, so I don't really care if it is not convenient to stores, malls, etc. I just want to make sure it is a safe area.
Thanks.

eh, the apartments right there are not bad but all of the stuff immediately south of that location is pretty crappy.

I wouldnt worry about staying there short term but I wouldn't buy a house there or anything.

You will be fine short term. Right across and behind there is kind of iffy, but during the day it's not bad. I would not buy a house but renting is fine.

Those are called the millennium apartments, they are over priced considering they are in carver city not westshore like the name implies.

Those are not built yet right and again not in Westshore. I think of westshore I think Beach Park, I guess Westshore Palms and North Bonair which are both kinda of gentrified but Carver City is like the African American equivalent of West Tampa.

Westshore goes all the way up to Int'l Plaza and the area is trying to be redeveloped by the city.
